Voloshky Ukrainian Dance Ensemble was founded in 1972 by Zoia Hraur Korsun, Ph.D. Since then, Voloshky's goal has been to develop and maintain a dance company of the highest standards. Voloshky has earned renown for the vigor and resplendence of its performances. The Voloshky style is bold, powerful, and one of sparkling athleticism. The Ensemble generates a dynamic blend of art and energy characterizing the vitality of the Ukrainian people. Voloshky's artistry and portrayal of Ukrainian dance is testament to a vibrant and enduring culture steeped in rich history. Under the artistic direction of Taras Lewyckyj, Voloshky accomplishes dance on a truly lofty scale.

Voloshky achieves a delicate balance between authenticity and originality in style and composition. The dancers combine the strengths of classical ballet, with the vigor of traditional Ukrainian dance. The ensemble draws from a repertoire of over 45 traditional dances representing the various regions of Ukraine. From vibrant, acrobatic dances such as Hopak - called the most exciting folk dance in the world, to graceful, stylized romantic movements in Kokhanochka, the Ensemble displays a style that is clearly native to Ukrainian dancing, yet classical enough to be appreciated by all.

Voloshky receives funding from Federal, State and local organizations. The assistance from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, the Pew Charitable Trusts, and the Philadelphia Cultural Fund has afforded Voloshky opportunities to acquire new choreography, self-produce performances, and purchase new costumes.

The Voloshky Ensemble is committed to sharing the wealth of Ukrainian dance and folklore. With every performance, the Ensemble imparts an awareness and appreciation of Ukrainian dance, traditions, and culture. The Ensemble performs throughout the United States and Canada in concert settings, cultural and entertainment festivals, corporate functions, community and arts centers, along with schools and universities. Each program is designed according to the characteristics of the venue and interests of the audience, utilizing from three dancers to the entire Ensemble.
